Job purpose
The Nursing Aide provides patient care that is consistent with Hospice of North Central Oklahoma, Inc. policies and standards.
Duties and responsibilities
- Hospice aides are assigned to a specific patient by a registered nurse that is a member of the interdisciplinary group. Written patient care instructions for a hospice aide must be prepared by a registered nurse who is responsible for the supervision of a hospice aide as specified under paragraph (h) of this section.
- A hospice aide provides services that are:
- Ordered by the interdisciplinary group.
- Included in the plan of care.
- Permitted to be performed under State law by such hospice aide.
- Consistent with the hospice aide training.
- The duties of a hospice aide include the following:
- The provision of hands-on personal care.
- The performance of simple procedures as an extension of therapy or nursing services.
- Assistance in ambulation or exercises.
- Homemaker services as outlined in the patient Plan of Care
- Hospice aides must report changes in the patient’s medical, nursing, rehabilitative, and social needs to a registered nurse, as the changes relate to the plan of care and quality assessment and improvement activities. Hospice aides must also complete appropriate records in compliance with hospice’s policies and procedures.
Qualifications
- Licensed as a Certified Nursing Assistant by the State of Oklahoma.
- Certification as a Home Health Aide by the State of Oklahoma preferred.
- Certified Hospice & Palliative Nurse Assistant preferred.
- Clean criminal background check and fingerprints on file with the State Health Department.
- Demonstrated effective communication, leadership and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated skills as exhibited by passing of agency exam with score of 75 percent or higher as well as demonstrating skills required on agency checklist.
- Possession of a current driver’s license for the State of Oklahoma, vehicle insurance and the ability to visit the homes of patients.
- Must be highly motivated, energetic, and work interdependently and collaboratively. Requires exceptional attention to detail and communication skills. Requires basic time management and organizational philosophy understand, along with policies and procedures.
Working conditions
Regular working hours with no special working conditions. Time occasionally spent in patient’s homes, nursing homes or assisting living facilities. Occasional weekend and weeknight hours
